Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) is honored to announce that His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana will graciously preside over the inauguration ceremony of the Midfield Satellite 1 (SAT-1) and the Third Runway at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) on 20th March 2025, at 17.00 hrs. This historic event forms part of the Celebration on the Auspicious Occasion of His Majesty the King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary on 28th July 2024.
The inauguration reflects Their Majesties’ unwavering dedication to the nation’s progress and prosperity. It also marks a significant milestone in the development of Suvarnabhumi Airport, enhancing its capacity to accommodate the country’s growing aviation sector and reinforcing Thailand’s economic strength.
AOT has consistently advanced its infrastructure to support the increasing volume of passengers and flights at Suvarnabhumi Airport. The SAT-1 terminal, built to meet international standards, will expand the airport’s capacity by an additional 15 million passengers annually. The terminal is equipped with an Automated People Mover (APM) system, ensuring seamless connectivity between SAT-1 and the main terminal.
Further elevating Suvarnabhumi Airport’s status on the global stage, SAT-1 was recently awarded the prestigious 2024 Prix Versailles Award in the Architecture category for its exceptional exterior design. Recognized by UNESCO, this accolade distinguishes Suvarnabhumi Airport as one of the world’s most aesthetically remarkable airports.
Complementing the SAT-1 terminal, the Third Runway will significantly enhance the airport’s operational efficiency, increasing its capacity to handle up to 94 flights per hour. This expansion will help alleviate air traffic congestion and improve service quality for all airlines operating at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
